Majid-Reza Souzanchi Kashani, a Christian convert, was transferred to the Great Tehran Penitentiary, also known as Fashafoyeh prison, after he refused to comply with an illegal request to shave his head. He was arrested during a security forces raid on a house church meeting in Tehran in 2017. Judge Mashallah Ahmadzadeh, head of Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court at the time, sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment on the charges of membership in an evangelical group and propaganda against the government in 2018. Branch 54 of Tehran’s Court of Appeals, presided by Judge Hassan Babaei, later reduced his sentence to two years’ imprisonment. During his detention, he has tried again and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment because of “stealing the identification documents” of one of his friends, who accidentally died while climbing.
