Amir-Hossein Mirkhalili, a believer in Erfan-e-Halgheh mysticism, was attacked and beaten by other inmates in Evin prison. In December 2016, he was arrested during a sit-in protest about the situation of Mohammed Ali Taheri, the founder of Erfan-e-Halgheh, in front of Evin prison. He was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and 74 lashes on the charge of disturbing public order at Branch 1177 of Tehran’s Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Morteza Akbari Lalimi. The court of appeals later reduced his sentence to six months’ imprisonment and 10 lashes. In September 2017, he was arrested again and then released on bail. In February 2020, Judge Mohammad Moghisseh, the head of Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, sentenced him to ten years’ imprisonment on the charges of “managing an opposition group,” “spreading lies with the intent of disturbing public opinion,” and “propaganda against the government.” After that, he was sent to Evin prison to serve his sentence.
