Contrary to the internal regulations of Iran’s Prisons Organization regarding separating prisoners of conscience from other offenders, Dervish women were kept in a ward with other inmates, including violent felons. These women were deprived of their very basic rights, including access to an attorney and proper medical care. The Qarchak prison lacks basic sanitary conditions and Dervish women who protested against its conditions were brutally beaten.
