Until then, his family was unaware of his whereabouts. Some reports indicate that he was severely injured when he was arrested, but despite this, he was transferred to the Police Criminal Investigation Department on Shahpour Street, and arguably was denied proper medical care.

The Majzooban-e Noor website first reported that Mohammad Raji died during interrogation. Raji had been a commander of Iranian forces in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War. According to his family, security forces had refused to give his body to the family unless they agreed to have him buried at night without a ceremony. Despite his family’s protest, Mohammad Raji was buried in his hometown of Aligoudarz, in Lorestan Province, at night. No one has been held accountable for Mohammad Raji’s death so far.
