The mass protests erupted across the country, following the government’s announcement about the significant overnight rise in the price of fuel.
At the time of arrest, Asadi Borjani was beaten and insulted by security forces in front of his family. They showed no warrant but searched his house and confiscated some of his personal belongings. Some reports indicate that he was severely tortured during his detention and denied access to proper medical care.
Khalil Asadi Borjani and three other people were put on trial at Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Kermanshah, presided over by Judge Asadi. He was sentenced to six years and six months’ imprisonment, which three years and six months of it was enforceable, on the charges of “congregation and collusion with intent to disrupt national security” and “membership in opposition groups.” The court of appeals, however, later reduced his sentence to four months’ imprisonment.
