Following the Kovar clashes in Fars Province in 2011, a group of Gonabadi dervishes, who lived in this city, were put on trial at the Shiraz Revolutionary Court on charges of moharebeh [waging war with God] and acting against national security.*

Mohammad Ali Shamshirzan, Kazem Dehghan, and Hamid Arayesh were sentenced to life in exile in Bandar Abbas, Zahedan, and Ahvaz. In addition, Mohsen Ismaili, Mohammad-Ali Dehghan, Mohammad Ali Sadeghi, and Ebrahim Bahrami were sentenced to seven years in exile in Zabul, Dezful, Maragheh, and Sardasht, respectively. Their sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court. Mohammad Ali Shamshirzan was sent to Bandar Abbas in the spring of 2015. About a year later, when he went to the city police station to report his daily presence, he was arrested and kept in Bandar Abbas prison despite his serious heart disease. Mohammad Ali Shamshirzan was denied access to medical care during his detention in Bandar Abbas Prison.
